Background
This National Prize is awarded annually by Finalmed. This is the fourth consecutive year we have funded these prizes. Over the last decade, Medical Education has experienced a paradigm shift in that the central focus is upon teaching communications skills between doctor and patient - clearly an essential component in the practice of medicine. Finalmed believes that in this shift, an equally important skill has been neglected; namely the ability to communicate effectively with our colleagues.
Finalmed seeks to teach students and junior doctors that an accurate, precise and succinct clinical presentation reflects their own understanding and informs management decisions with their patient. Furthermore effective presentation requires knowledge and understanding – you need to have done the book work! These principles form the basis of the courses Finalmed runs across the country. Given our commitment to high standards in Clinical Presenting it seemed logical & appropriate that we establish this Prize competition.
